Pyrrole-Based Composites for Metal Extraction and Analysis

Description:

Project ID#:  D2018-57

Invention Description

The researchers at the University of Toledo have developed a chelating polypyrrole powder that can be used for filtration by directly mixing with samples and passing the sample through a filter. Desorption is then accomplished by simply dropping the pH.

Applications

•       Selective microextraction devices

•       Water purification systems

Advantages

•       Minimal interferences

•       Tunable selectivity based on the chelating agent

•       Cost effective materials

•       Reusable

•       Easily handled in powder form

•       Fast equilibrium time (<5 min)

•       Electropolymerization is possible to create SPME fibers
